Judges disciplined

Posted By on Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:57 PM

The state Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission today issued letters of reprimand to two judges -- Circuit Judge Mary McGowan of Little Rock and Circuit Judge L.T. Simes of Helena-West Helena. Both were agreed actions, that is settlements of outstanding complaints short of a full hearing, so details of the complaints won't be released beyond summaries in the letters.

The full letters are here.

McGowan was reprimanded for failure to act in a timely fashion on several cases, for failure to make required reports to ther state Supreme Court on cases pending more than 90 days and for lapses in demeanor -- a failure to be courteous and patient with people on court.

Simes was reprimanded for failure to act promptly in a high-profile case that's been the subject of much discussion already, the Crumbly v. Willis state Senate election challenge.
