Who you callin' unsafe?

Posted By on Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 8:49 AM

The LRPD is sending around a U.S. Conference of Mayors warning about comparing the relative safety of cities based on FBI crime stats. Since LR often fares poorly in such rankings, you can see why the cops might have been encouraged to distribute the info. Criminologists point out here the shortcomings of such rankings. A person's age, lifestyle and neighborhood are better predictors of crime risk than residence in a certain city.

Well, yeah, sure. But high-crime cities still seem to me to offer a higher possibility of criminal types occasionally reaching out to other neighborhoods for their victims. You think?
