Pressly suspect: A stalker?

Posted By on Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 8:38 AM

ABC News has advanced the reporting on the Anne Pressly murder case a good distance.

Their reporting includes an interview with Kristen Edwards, the Marianna school teacer whose rape investigation provided critical DNA evidence that led to the arrest of Curtis Vance in the Pressly murder. Edwards says her attacker came up from behind her last April and ordered her not to look at him, so she was unable to identify him. She was threatened and didn't fight back, perhaps a difference that could explain the fatal beating Oct. 20 of KATV anchor Pressly, who apparently struggled with her attacker.

The article provides information about how Marianna Police Chief Vincent Bell and detective Carl McCree last Tuesday stopped a vehicle with suspicious plates. The conversation with the driver connected Marianna and Little Rock, they said, enough of a flag to prompt the important call to Little Rock police. Detectives soon after obtained a DNA sample from Vance that tied him, according to state Crime Lab analysis completed a day later, to the assault of Edwards (pictured at left in ABC photo) in Marianna and the Pressly slaying.

The reporting says Vance is suspected of stalking other women, both in Marianna and near a fitness center in the Heights. Further, there's a bombshell in which Little Rock police are quoted as saying Vance, while denying involvement in Pressly's death, had told them he'd been at her house.

Police told ABC News that while Vance denies the murder, he did admit to being at Pressly's house.

"We believe he probably saw her in the neighborhood, probably getting gas, maybe doing something else and then followed her and attacked her," said [LR Police Lt. Terry] Hastings. "He denied being involved in it in any way. But his DNA told us otherwise."

ABC's 20/20, which airs tonight at 9 p.m., will be devoted to the Pressly case.
