Mike Huckabee on gay bias

Posted By on Sat, Dec 6, 2008 at 5:55 AM

Interesting video here. An independent Michigan news website caught former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at a book signing in Lansing and asked him again about his differentiation of discrimination against gay people and the civil rights movement. Hisw comments on "The View" have roiled the gay community.

Classic Huck: He sounds reasonable in his unreasonableness. Hate crime legislation? He's not going to be for it. Ready to agree that gay people have been targets of violence on account of who they are? Not really to an unusual degree. From his answer, you draw the conclusion that he believes gay people have suffered no more offense than Christians. The Christian-as-victim card and the use of gay people as a wedge with black voters tells you all you need to know about his sympathies. But he knows his audience, and that's the truly sad thing.

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
