The tiger v. the teddy bear

Posted By on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 7:32 AM

John Brummett provides his own account of his cage match with KATV's Kristin Fisher over "choose your news," newsroom webcams and other aspects of the new media world. Good points on both sides.

I'm still fixated on the biggest happening in newspapers today -- the impending decision by Detroit newspapers to end home delivery four days a week and to substitute that with limited circulation of a reduced-sized print edition sold only single-copy. Readers will be encouraged to go to their computers for expanded coverage. This guarantees an enormous number of people won't be able to access the expanded coverage. Strange as it seems, this move may be viewed someday as the precursor of an industry-wide shift. I hope I'm not around then. I know it's fogeyish to say, but I just love newspapers. Not on-line news sources. Papers.
