The Arkansas factor

Posted By on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 6:41 AM

Many have written before that the 60-vote filibuster-proof majority in the Senate is not a sure-fire number either way when you consider 1) Republicans who might have electoral reasons not to go lockstep with their party and 2) ditto Democrats, particularly Southern Democrats. Brummett thinks that factor No. 2, with Sens. Pryor and Lincoln getting ever antsier about being viewed as friends of the working man, makes it likelier than ever that Obama will learn a little Arkie-style finesse to avoid pushing the union-backed card check legislation.

Sigh. He's probably right.
