Foreign aid payments

Posted By on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 11:03 AM

Republicans and Blanche Lincoln balked at making loans to U.S. automakers, even if it means economic catastrophe for hundreds of thousands of workers in direct and related employment. To them, union punishment comes before all else.

I"ve mentioned this before, but here's an interesting tally of $3.6 billion in direct taxpayer handouts made to foreign carmakers who operate in the U.S. These are direct welfare payments. No repayments required.

UPDATE: Speaking of Blanche Lincoln and unions -- an anti-union group plans a big ad buy to link Lincoln and other potential swing votes on card check legislation to the Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. See a union gave Blago money and unions support the card check and a vote for card check is a vote for unions is a bribe for Blago, or something like that. Talk about slimy. Coming to Ark. TV sets soon.

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality has denied a new permit for the C&H Hog Farms' concentrated animal feeding operation near Mount Judea (Newton County). This is a big and somewhat surprising victory for critics who have viewed C&H's large-scale pig farm and the pig waste it generates as an existential threat to the Buffalo National River.

Hillary Clinton's campaign for president illustrates again the double standard applied to women. Some writers get it. They even find the supposedly unlikable Clinton inspiring.
