Speaking of city government

Posted By on Tue, Dec 23, 2008 at 9:37 AM

Call me nuts, but if the city of Little Rock has to tap the garbage pickup fund for $2 million annually to balance the budget, one of two things must be true: 1) The overall city budget is too high; 2) garbage collection fees are too high.

And for today's double-cross on Little Rock officials: Readers have criticized me from grumping about the five-day weekends extended by state, county and many city governments this week. (For universities, it's something like an 18-day weekend.)

But, I was surprised to hear at the War Memorial fitness center this morning that employees there would be working both Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas. Surely the city could have given them off one or the other of those two days.
