Grandstanding or good government?

Brummett concludes there may be a bit of both in Rep. Dan Greenberg's idea -- likely going nowhere -- to give citizens a right to request FOI opinions from the attorney general. He sees a little political motivation in Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's resistance to the legislation. Perhaps. But I'm persuaded that his practical objection -- having to offer up essentially meaningless guidance on a flood of citizen-generated requests -- is meritorious.

Again: If Greenberg really wants to help, he should file a bill to provide legal fees when a citizen prevails in court against a public agency's refusal to release public documents.
