Rough year for colleges

Posted By on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 7:14 AM

College endowments dropped, on average, 23 percent in the first five months of the current fiscal year. Not surprising given the market implosion.

The college-by-college breakout during that five-month period is not available. But a report from the same group comparing fiscal 2008 with the previous year showed the University of Arkansas and Foundation's holdings dropped by 2.4 percent, slightly better than 3 percent average drop for all higher education institutions for the period. Much better than major financial market indicators.
