How big is too big?

Posted By on Sun, Feb 8, 2009 at 11:42 AM

The New York Times today takes up the sometimes ticklish question of family size. Figures show a sharp historic decline in big families (more than five kids, say). Those who still choose a houseful have begun to feel embattled by rude remarks and the like.

Sure, the Duggars are mentioned and the mother of six who just birthed eight more thanks to fertility treatment. But it's not really about the extraordinary types.

Me? Family size is a personal choice. But, yes, I admit some lack of comprehension when a family hits basketball-team-plus-subs size, even though my paternal grandmother was one of 11 kids.
