Big shoes to fill

Posted By on Sat, Feb 14, 2009 at 3:07 PM

House Speaker Robbie Wills' latest post recounts a visit by former Gov. and Sen. Dale Bumpers to his office. He writes that he considers Bumpers a hero and tries to emulate him.

One way to do that is to stand up and take tough positions on issues where emotion is trumping reason. Panama Canal anyone?

Here's another one with current relevance -- a partial birth abortion ban. President Bill Clinton vetoed it. Dale Bumpes voted to sustain the veto. Wills voted for such a ban last week.

Just saying. If you want to emulate the man, emulate the man.

  • Another Republican miracle-working governor

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
