Beebe's right, gamblers wrong

Posted By on Fri, Feb 27, 2009 at 5:34 AM

What is it about Fort Smith and bingo? The gambling operators don't think they should be regulated. They don't think they should pay any amount to the state for the privilege of operating loosely overseen gambling halls. Now they want refunds of any taxes already paid. And the lady from Ft. Smith wants to enable them. Gov. Mike Beebe says he opposes deregulation and is open to a reduction, but not elimination of the tax. Would he veto the bad bills if they reach him anyway? Let's hope.
