Bob Johnson's atonement

Posted By on Sun, Mar 1, 2009 at 6:09 AM

John Brummett has an informative column today about Sen. Bob Johnson's effort to buy sod farm acreage in the Lake Maumelle watershed for future natural use. It would be a worthy curative to his efforts to kill Lake Maumellle watershed regulation a few years back.

Oddly, the process is hindered a little bit by a general desire among all key parties to get the thing done, but in a carefully appraised way. A nonprofit group that will hold the land in trust must be sure that a purchase doesn't create an unfair windfall for the owners, who include Jay DeHaven and everybody's favorite environmentalist, the coal-plant advocating PC&E commissioner and steelmaker Thomas Schueck.
