Politics and reality

Good Frank Rich today. It summarizes crisply the Republican Party's current tone-deafness and the continued pursuit of failed talking points by pseudo-populist plutocrats. Problem is, the country has real problems. The banking system must be propped up, but voters aren't much inclined to pile more money on them. Never mind what the president says, in other words. What's President Obama going to do?

IN THIS VEIN: Kevin Drum writes of Mike Huckabee's recent overheated rhetoric about socialist, even Stalinist or Leninist, Democratic proposals. He concludes he means it and that kind is apparently viewed as what's necessary to win a Republican nomination these days.
