Diversity on UA board

Posted By on Sun, Mar 15, 2009 at 7:27 AM

Here's a NWA Dem-Gaz story that would have been a worthy addition to the LR edition:

Tracie Dungan's report on David Pryor's appointment to the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees in which Gov. Mike Beebe became only the latest in a long line to continue the overwhelming tendency to appoint white males (rich white males). Has the Board ever had more than one woman or one black among its 10 members to oversee a university system with a majority female and nearly 20 percent minority enrollment? Has a person of modest means ever served on the Board? Nobody's griping about David Pryor, mind you. Maybe Beebe's next appointee won't be a rich white guy. Want to bet?
