Triple threat

You're not invited -- all seats are committed -- but I'm sure they'll be videotaping for posterity the Kumpuris Lecture Friday night at the Cllinton Library. The speakers: Former President Clinton and former Sens. and Govs. David Pryor and Dale Bumpers. Mack "The Nice" McLarty will be tested moderating these three, none known as exactly tight-lipped.

I'm put in mind of a long ago Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner by the state Democratic Party. Clinton, Pryor and Bumpers gave remarks. Not brief ones. The "keynote" speaker was then Va. Sen. Chuck Robb. After tour de force remarks by the three Arkies -- all working a crowd with which they were well acquainted -- Robb said, "I might as well throw away this speech." If only he had. He proceeded to read every last leaden word.
