Loosest slots

Here's the Arkansas Racing Commission's monthly report on machine gambling at Oaklawn and Southland parks.

Southland is still the leader, with $41 million bet in March. Oaklawn saw $21 million pumped into its machines, though this doesn't count the "Instant Racing," which is nominally described as a parimutuel operation based on real horse races. In practice, it's just another slot machine.

Best bet? Southland machines, by a whisker. They paid back 95.2 percent of money wagered in winnings. Oaklawn paid 94.1 percent. The Hot Springs track's gross take is expected to rise significantly with opening of its new casino operation, a building devoted to electronic gambling.
