The not-so-free press

Posted By on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 8:17 AM

Argenta News, the website devoted to NLR happenings, gigs the hometown weekly newspaper, the Times of North Little Rock, for its latest price increase, to $27 per year. Still cheaper than our mail subscription (free on newsstands), fairness compels me to note. And I have some sympathy for the Times. What do newspapers do in face of all the pressures they face? Cut prices? But I also know this is what the scrappy websites do, look for opportunities to exploit differences with established competitors. It may be writ small, but it's all part of the brave new world.
