Floatin' and packin'

We're a little slow on the draw, but need to note that Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor voted with the Senate majority yesterday to allow folks to carry loaded guns in national parks and U.S. fish and wildlife lands. Heck with what the people who police the parks and refuges say. For more, see what the Times article about Lincoln's vow to get legislation passed that would rescue the 11th-hour Bush administration rule, which a judge has enjoined, and reservations by parks employees.

    It has been 59 years since 21 teen-aged boys incarcerated at the so-called Negro Boys Industrial School were burned to death in their locked dormitory. The Times wrote about the event in 2008, after the brother and mother of one of the boys approached the Times looking for someone to remember the event, and headlined the story "Stirring the Ashes." But on Saturday, a monument to the boys was placed at Haven of Rest Cemetery, where 14 of the boys were buried.
