Hellish world

Bruce Jackson,, a photographer who had documented prison life in Texas, struck up a friendship with fiuture Arkansas prison boss Terrell Don Hutto that led Jackson to Cummins Prison Farm in 1975. There, he used a wide angle camera to document life at a place Time magazine had described as "hell in Arkansas."

The photos, one of which is shown above, have been restored and are getting attention currently on a NY Times photo blog, which showcases 18 prints. Several are on display currently at the new Arkansas Studies Institute.
