Free enterprise at work

Posted By on Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 1:18 PM

From President Obama's remarks today to the American Medical Association.

Today, we are spending over $2 trillion a year on health care - almost 50 percent more per person than the next most costly nation. And yet, for all this spending, more of our citizens are uninsured; the quality of our care is often lower; and we aren't any healthier. In fact, citizens in some countries that spend less than we do are actually living longer than we do.

Yep, that private health insurance is mighty efficient. Single payer is the answer. I know. It's not on the table. And, please. Canada me no Canada. I've had friends and relations who lived in Canada, France and U.S. and we finish third in their assessment of health care. Check how far you have to scroll before you get to the U.S. on the world ranking of life expectancy. What's a bit of a wait for a medical procedure (that's paid for) against either a) no procedure for lack of money and b) an average two-year shorter life.
