The Pickensmobile

Posted By on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 1:56 PM

Thanks to Arkansas Business for a tip to a story that's buzzing through the auto press. It seems that Boone Pickens is among those bankrolling a startup carmaker, V-Vehicle, which is going to start turning out fuel-efficient gasoline-powered cars in a former auto parts plant in Monroe, La.

There had been early speculation that electric or hybrid vehicles would be the company's product, but today's announcement indicates otherwise. The Monroe News Star is over the moon about the 1,400 jobs the plant will create. Jobs in Monroe, of course, could mean jobs for people from nearby southern Arkansas.

The Louisiana Economic Development agency offers much background on the new car company.
