Something's rotten in the prisons

Posted By on Mon, Jun 22, 2009 at 8:15 PM

Two killers walk out the prison gate in guard uniforms at shift change and aren't missed for hours.

Last week, we reported the firing of a lieutenant for thievery and the smuggling of weapons onto Death Row.

Over the weeknd, a guard kiled a man fleeing in a car from a security checkpoint. The dead man was wanted for failing to make a parole office visit. Might procedures have allowed a less-serious resolution of that incident outside the walls?

Now today comes a  report on the near-death of an inmate left to lie in bodily waste. An officer has been fired. The misdeeds include lap dancing on duty, convivial potluck dinners and a failure to properly patrol.

Accountability starts at the top, particularly when bad news comes in bunches.

  • UPDATE: Hutchinson moves to cover himself on cut to War Memorial Stadium

Gov. Asa Hutchinson apparently felt the burn from KARK's exclusive Tuesday night on his plans to cut state support of War Memorial Stadium in half beginning July 1, 2018. He has a so-far secret plan to make the stadium self-sustaining. We bet that doesn't include state support.
