Death at the prison

Posted By on Mon, Jul 6, 2009 at 9:29 AM

A Varner prison inmate died shortly after suffering an apparent cardiac arrest about 12:45 p.m. Sunday. Prison spokeswoman Dina Tyler said a preliminary toxicology report indicated the presence of amphetamines or methamphetamines in the body of James White, 34, but a full toxicology report is being done. She noted that the inmate had a variety of medical problems, including a seizure disorder, asthma and hepatitis and so prison officials aren't ready to speculate on cause of death. Tyler said no evidence of illicit drugs had been found among his effects in the barracks. White had a long rap sheet. He was serving time for sentences in Craighead, Clay, Pope and Sebastian counties.
