— Henry Gates in Harvard photo

The famous scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. was arrested at his own  home near Harvard after being seen trying to force open a locked door. He suggests this wouldn’t have happened to a white man. If this doesn’t turn into a national teaching episode about police/black relations, I’ll be surprised.

It won’t go that far, but it also seems easy to predict how much sympathy Gates would get from Roberts, Alito, Thomas and Scalia. They’d probably decide the white cop had been discriminated against by being accused of racism.
