Suffering children

Posted By on Thu, Aug 20, 2009 at 7:11 PM

The law that requires DHS to report some, very limited, facts about deaths and near deaths of children at least insures that the too-frequent tragedies won't go unnoticed. Another of these disasters appears to be brewing in Conway, the death of a six-year-old whose family had been investigated twice previously for some type of neglect.

In time, there should be -- but if the past is a guide, won't -- be a complete accoounting of precisely the nature of past complaints, how they were handled and whether, if somebody fell down on the job, there were consequences. There's a death investigation to be done first, with its own set of as-yet unanswered questions.
