More popular than Jesus

Posted By on Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 10:55 AM

Oh, OK, I exaggerate. (Or maybe not, the Jesus question wasn't asked.) But poll shows Gov. Mike Beebe the most popular of the 50 governors. Give up hope any who would run against him. With no other name to use, the pollsters matched Beebe against state Rep. Allen Kerr. Result: 55-24.

Note: 45 percent of respondents to this poll couldn't pull a trigger for Beebe against, effectively, nobody. And Beebe carries little of the baggage -- and faces none of the enormous high-risk congressional votes -- that a senatorial candidate carries. My point: Polling at this point is not without meaning, but it's also not laden with it.
