Energy bill debate

Posted By on Fri, Aug 28, 2009 at 4:44 PM

Claiborne Deming, the former CEO of Murphy Oil, continues to make his case against the energy bill in a speech in LR today.

In short, the U.S. shouldn't legislate tougher limits on emissions because other countries, particularly China, are bad actors.

But if not us, who?

PS -- Deming was on relatively good behavior today. In an earlier interview with Talk Business, he characterized the well-intentioned legislation as little more than "political payback," scoffed at wind power and otherwise played the caricature of the stogey-puffing, environment-fouling wildcatter, pockets stuffed with greenbacks and a conscience unburdened by the ill effects of his work. I don't think that's Deming, generally speaking, but his role as hatchetman for the Petroleum Council doesn't become him.
