Beebe calls Senate election

Posted By on Tue, Sep 1, 2009 at 1:14 PM

Sen. Sharon Trusty's resignation from the state Senate took effect today and Gov. Mike Beebe has officially served notice of a special election to fill the seat. Political parties have 10 days to notify the governor if they want to choose nominees by convention or a special primary election. The state has 150 days by statute to fill the vacancy.

Two lawyers have announced for the seat -- Democrat John Burnett of Atkins and former state Rep. Michael Lamoureux of Russellville, a Republican.
