A place called Hope

Posted By on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 11:14 AM

Most-read story on the Hope Star website (link fixed) currently is a detailed account of a Saturday night disturbance in Hope that produced arrests, conflicting accounts on whether a Taser was used and suspension of a reserve officer for using a racial epithet while talking to his wife, unaware that his police radio mike was open. You sort it out.

This might be news: The police chief decided that charges of inciting a riot and disorderly conduct should be dropped against a man involved in the fracas. It's a rare day when cops give up on a disorderly conduct charge. A charge of resisting arrest on the now-dismissed charge will stand, however. Said Chief J.R. Wilson:

“It is important to understand that even if an arrest is later found to be unlawful or is administratively dismissed, it is not lawful to resist such an arrest.”
