Book beat: Clinton, Boris and Bush

Posted By on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 9:04 AM

More nuggets are being mined from new White House books:

From Taylor Branch's book on his taped interviews with President Clinton (related by Talking Points Memo):

[Boris] Yeltsin was visiting Washington in 1995 when, late at night, Secret Service agents found the Russian president stripped to his underwear and trying to hail a cab on Pennsylvania Avenue. He wanted a pizza, he slurred.

From a former Bush speechwriter's tell-all, also from TPM:

For example, President Bush's reaction when he heard about the sex scandal involving Sen. Larry "Wide Stance" Craig: "What is with all these Republicans?" ...

Then there was the speechwriter who wanted to add a few lines against gay marriage to a commencement address Bush would give at Furman University. "I'm not going to tell some gay kid in the audience that he can't get married," Bush said.
