Ditch the tunnel

Posted By on Sat, Sep 26, 2009 at 6:00 AM

John Brummett beholds the proposed Wills-Faris Memorial Capitol Tunnel and finds it, among others, "supremely inane" and "tone deaf" and "ill-timed." Other than that:

So now we’re going to put the State Library and these three other agencies together in this fancified Dillard’s building, helping out the private investors. That, in turn, opens up 35,000 square feet in Big Mac, by which the legislative staff could be moved there and House members could get their Capitol offices.

And then came the idea for the tunnel.

It all makes some sense but only if you have completely lost your political bearings.

People out there in the civilian world are deferring their wish-lists, not waltzing blithely straight to the top of them. Politicians would do well to emulate.

  • Another Republican miracle-working governor

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
