Saving money

Posted By on Wed, Oct 14, 2009 at 6:40 AM

An article in this morning's paper interested me because I once took a look at the idea of paying for energy-saving improvements for a commercial building that were said to pay for themselves. I was sufficiently confused to punt.

The Little Rock National Airport is moving toward a $9.1 million deal with an energy-saving enterprise -- introduced around Arkansas by airport commissioner and former Mayor Jim Dailey. It is said that, when implemented, the deal will save more than $653,000 a year in utility costs. The savings are guaranteed, it was reported. So, in about 14 years, the expenditure, in today's dollars, will be recouped in future dollars, not counting interest, and then continue to reap savings.

I'm sure our blog community is full of experts on such as this. Is this a good deal? The D-G article is available only to subscribers.
