Yet another story, in NY Times, identifies Sen. Blanche Lincoln as pivotal — and a likely obstacle — to health care legislation.
The controversy has become mind-numbing. The right-wingers say Lincoln must not vote to end a filibuster. She must allow an unending debate on the measure rather than a final vote. The dishonest among them (see daily newspaper editorial page) say this is a must for full discussion.
But wait. The first vote to be filibustered is the question of even OPENING debate on the bill. Is it OK to prevent debate?
Of course it is if your one single aim is defeat of expansion of health care for the neediest Americans and limits on an out-of-control system. The answer for this group is No, No and No again. Any other argument is pretext.
