A letter to the mayor

Posted By on Tue, Dec 1, 2009 at 9:55 AM

Robert Johnston, a former state representative and a busy activist on a range of public issues, has written a letter to LR Mayor Mark Stodola about pending city budget cuts.

Dear Mark
The CLR budget is tight. You are looking at cuts.
I suggest you look carefully at cutting or eliminating the $200,000 for the Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber is in much better fiscal shape than the City. The Chamber takes positions on major public policies contrary to the interests of the City and its residents – health care, climate weirdness, consumer protection, worker protection.

Subsidizing a rich business organization that lobbies for narrow interests is not an appropriate use of CLR tax dollars at any time, much less as you are proposing to close Alert Centers, etc.
