In addition to the still unannounced $25 million powerball winner, Arkansas has a $500,000 instant winner -- a Rogers woman, Tammy Johnson -- in the $10 Jackpot scratchoff game.

The winners will help business. (Just remember, past performance is not a guarantee of future results in the odds business.)

LOTTERY NEWS RELEASE

On January 2, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL) sold the winning PowerballÒ ticket for a prize valued at $25 million. On January 1, Tammy Johnson (pictured below) from Rogers, Arkansas, purchased a $500,000 Jackpot instant ticket from the Kum & Go Store in Lowell and found out she had won the top prize of $500,000.

The first person Tammy told was her mother.  No one else in the family knew about her good fortune until today, when she cashed in her prize at the ASL Claims Office in Springdale. Tammy has two children and six grandchildren. What is she doing with the money? “We are buying a new car, paying off loans, buying some clothes and the rest will go into savings” she said proudly.

Tammy claimed her prize today, but she has not been able to sleep since she scratched off her ticket. Ms. Johnson, who works at the home office of Walmart, called her boss this morning and asked to take a vacation day, not disclosing the real reason for the request. When her supervisor asked if “everything was okay”, she responded “oh yes”.

News of Ms. Johnson’s prize was preceded by two $100,000 winners in one day on December 29, and should soon be followed by the presentation of that Arkansas-purchased $25 Million Powerball ticket.
