Open it up

Nothing much here. Not as cold. Jay Leno going back to late night. Republican chair Michael Steele is working up a fuss about Harry Reid's dumb remark a couple of years ago about Barack Obama (whom Reid supported).

It is no defense of Reid to say it is a stretch to compare Reid's remarks about Obama's perceived blackness with Trent Lott's approving comments about Strom Thurmond's segregationist politics. It won't be the last time Reid sticks a foot in his mouth either. A new majority leader? Why not? But it is nice for the Republican Party to be standing up for America's first black president in the face of an early Obama supporter's insensitive remark. None dare call it political opportunism. Their warmth toward people of color is reflected throughout the South in opinion polling and election results, not to mention civil rights legislation and GOP leadership and candidates.
