None dare call it fat

Gov. Mike Beebe said yesterday that he anticipated no state layoffs as a result of the latest budget cut. Trims now total more than $200 million, a reduction in the year's planned budget of almost 4.6 percent.

That's a lot of cutting that can be absorbed without reaching people, in theory the biggest cost of state services, particularly when you consider that almost half the state budget -- in public schools -- has been held harmless. Just saying.
