The Republican surge

I don't get it. Doing nothing is better than trying to do something. Preventing the collapse of banks and major manufacturers is a source of populist rage. Trying to provide a health care safety net is a negative. Makes no sense to me. But it is giving hope to Republicans to pick up congressional seats all over the country, including, of course, Arkansas. From NY Times:

Representative John Boozman, Republican of Arkansas, said the results in Massachusetts had pushed him toward challenging Senator Blanche Lincoln, a vulnerable Democrat. “If the people of Massachusetts are upset, you can imagine how the people of Arkansas feel,” Mr. Boozman said in a telephone interview Sunday night.

I think Boozman is in. But he raises a good point: How upset are the people of Arkansas? We don't like the health care bill, but a solid majority want health care improvements. A majority think the economy is heading in the wrong direction, but we're doing better than most. That's what elections are about.
