These trying times

Posted By on Tue, Jan 26, 2010 at 6:16 AM

What a weird assortment of opinion this morning in the Times.

A black columnist writes that Barack Obama has a credibility gap. Republican columnist David Brooks writes that, in politics, "combative divisiveness" always loses -- on the heels of a famous election won by a Republican on just that. The editorial page, its stalwart liberal head in the sand, says Dems must summon the nerve to enact comprehensive health reform. (Democrats? Nerve?)

These are chaotic times. You can understand -- though you need not admire -- the fundamentalist Republican approach. It's so simple. Black/white. Faith/facts. Government bad/do-nothing good. Pickup trucks/elites. Etc. Buy your revenge now. Pay later.
