LOTTERY NEWS RELEASE

LITTLE ROCK – Feb. 22, 2010 -- A Powerball® ticket purchased in Arkansas became a Match 5 $200,000 winner Saturday night, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery announced.  Nationally, only six players matched the numbers on the five white balls to win a prize at this level.

No one picked all six winning numbers to win Saturday’s $61.6 million Powerball® jackpot, which has increased to $76 million for Wednesday’s drawing.  Arkansas became a Powerball® state on October 31, and this is its second Match 5 winner.  ASL retailers also sell Mega Millions® tickets, the nation’s other major multi-state game.  The Mega Millions® jackpot currently is $83 million.

In the three days leading up to Saturday night’s drawing, 334,819 Powerball® tickets were sold in Arkansas, with 144,873 (43 percent) picking the Power Play® option.  Power Play® raises the payout on a Match 5 ticket to $1,000,000.   “It’s always good news when an Arkansas player wins Match 5 and receives $200,000,” said ASL Director Ernie Passailaigue.  “A Match 5 Powerball winner who adds Power Play gets good news times five.”

The Fort Smith winner did not add Power Play®.  The previous Match 5 winner, from Uniontown in Crawford County, chose Power Play® and won a $1,000,000 prize in late January.

The $200,000 winning ticket was purchased at EZ Mart #174 at 3411 Country Club Avenue in Fort Smith.  The identity of the winner will not be known until the prize is claimed at one of the four ASL Claim Centers.

In both Powerball® and Mega Millions®, the jackpot winner must match all six numbers drawn.  Both games offer players several lower tier prizes of various amounts based on how many of their numbers match the six numbers drawn.
