Troopergate: a postscript

Posted By on Wed, Feb 24, 2010 at 9:08 AM

Bill Sadler, a spokesman for the State Police, confirms that Trooper Ronnie Anderson was fired Feb. 18. He is not releasing reasons for the termination because the process is not completed until Anderson decides whether to appeal.

Anderson's most recent assignment was working with state prison inmates assigned to State Police headquarters for work details.

I note the firing because Anderson is a historical footnote. He was one of the troopers on Gov. Bill Clinton's security detail who provided information for 1993 Los Angeles Times and American Spectator articles about alleged gubernatorial womanizing and supposed efforts to win troopers' silence with federal job offers. In 1998, however, Anderson said he'd corroborated other troopers' stories though he had no first-hand knowledge. In a sworn affidavit for the Paula Jones case, Anderson said, "From what I heard the other troopers say and from (what) I ... read in the American Spectator, the stories that were provided were nothing more than old fish tales, with little, if any, basis in fact."
