Pulaski has a school boss

Posted By on Fri, Feb 26, 2010 at 7:56 PM

How screwed up is the Pulaski County Special School District? I leave it to you and the federal court to decide.

But to help you along, here's a news release from School Board President Tim Clark announcing what appears to be the fait accompli of ascension of his buddy, Rob McGill, the acting superintendent, to bossdom of the troubled district.

NEWS RELEASE

PRESS RELEASE – FROM Tim Clark, President, Board of Education, Pulaski County Special School District

In my role as President of the Pulaski County Special School District Board of Education, I have served as the contact point in our dealings with McPherson & Jacobson, the consultant/search firm hired several months ago to assist the District in the hiring of a new superintendent. There has been a new development in that process.  I was informed this afternoon by McPherson & Jacobson that Dr. Vashti Washington of Charleston, S.C., has withdrawn from consideration for that position because she has accepted a job offer elsewhere.

Our congratulations and best wishes go out to Dr. Washington.

As you know, during extensive discussions and considerations last week regarding the strengths of different applicants, the Board had already narrowed our choice of candidates to only two “finalists,” including Dr. Washington and our current Acting Superintendent Rob McGill. We had determined through a painstaking process that these two were the top two choices from almost 20 highly qualified candidates. Thus, a second round of interviews for both Mr. McGill and Dr. Washington had been scheduled for this Monday, March 1, including a public meeting to let the patrons of our District meet and question both parties. Now, however, Dr. Washington has cancelled her plans and will not be coming to Little Rock.

Nevertheless, the Board will follow through on its original plans for a public meeting on Monday at 5:30 p.m., followed by a second interview with Mr. McGill after that public forum. We will continue with our plans for a special Board meeting on Monday evening to discuss the next steps in the hiring process.

I will generally be unavailable for further comment over this weekend (beginning Saturday), so members of the media may direct any short term questions to Board Vice President Charlie Wood.  Thank you.

Tim Clark
PCSSD Board President
