Filing has begun

Posted By on Mon, Mar 1, 2010 at 12:09 PM

I'll not attempt any sort of running report on candidate filing. Too many of them to track coherently in this format. But I'll take note as the spirit moves. Meanwhile, the secretary of state will be keeping a running list. How often it will be updated, I can't say.

UPDATE: They're slow on the page linked above that will carry full candidate information. But they're quickly posting on their Facebook page (with a picture of Charlie Daniels every time) one line entries on filers. Also on their Twitter page.

UPDATE II: Mostly pre-announced filings today. A new name turns up on Dem side for 1st District Congress, Terry Green of Mountain Home.

Also, as expected, L.T. Simes of Helena-West Helena, suspended without pay for judicial ethics violations and facing further proceedings, has filed again for his seat.

Donald Trump twice yesterday used James Lee Witt, Bill Clinton's widely hailed FEMA director and now in the private business of assisting in disasters, as a reference on the work he's done responding to hurricanes this year. Media, particularly on the conservative end, have echoed the Trump remarks. But hold on: Witt wasn't talking about Puerto Rico.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that an ethics complaint has been filed saying that the exploratory committee Rep. • Another Republican miracle-working governor

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
