D.C. gets same-sex marriage

Posted By on Tue, Mar 2, 2010 at 4:27 PM

I'm surprised. Chief Justice John Roberts declined to prevent Washington D.C.'s gay marriage law from taking effect tomorrow. He said it would depart from precedent to intervene in a matter of strictly local concern. Precedent hasn't proved to be controlling for Roberts on other cases. (For example, he seems poised to overturn centuries of gun law.)
