But the first paragraph is enough to make you cry. Most of the civilized world, overwhelmingly, understands that violence against children in the form of “corporal punishment” is a bad idea. Effective discipline is possible — better –through vigorous application of the brain, not a blunt instrument.

Corporal punishment, or paddling, should be reinstated at Fountain Lake School District, say roughly 40 elementary school teachers in a petition submitted to the school board last week. Disciplinary issues, particularly in the lower grades, have taxed the nerves of many elementary school teachers, who say too much class time is wasted dealing with unruly children.
