I don't recall ever receiving news of an endorsement from the spouse of an outgoing member of Congress, but 1st District Democratic congressional candidate Chad Causey claims one here from Carolyn Berry, wife of Rep. Marion "Good Riddance" Berry.

Did she ever publicly endorse Marion?

Carolyn Berry, wife of U.S. Congressman Marion Berry, gave her strong endorsement Monday to Chad Causey and his campaign to represent Arkansas’s First Congressional District.

Berry gave the following statement in support of her endorsement:

“Over the past nine years, as Chad worked his way up the ranks in the Congressman’s office, I came to know him as an energetic, genuine, and hard-working public servant.  I know that Chad has the experience and the work ethic it takes to continue the important job of representing the people of the First District of Arkansas.

“As a mother and a grandmother, I am pleased that Chad has worked with people and organizations throughout the district to secure funding for much needed projects like Save the Children, which fights poverty in the state through literacy, nutrition, and childhood development programs.  He has also been instrumental in bringing home educational grants for our primary, secondary and post-secondary schools.

“I am also proud of Chad for advising the Congressman on a number of issues important to women, including the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, which seeks to put an end to unequal pay.

“I believe that Chad Causey will be a fine Congressman, one that listens, works hard and cares for the people of Arkansas.”

Chad Causey responded with this statement:

“I am deeply humbled by Carolyn’s endorsement; she has all my admiration and thanks.  I do not take her endorsement lightly, nor do I take the responsibility of public service lightly.  I will continue to listen, to work hard and to fight for the people of Arkansas.”
