Both sides now for Mike Ross

Posted By on Thu, Mar 18, 2010 at 4:39 PM

U.S. Rep. Mike Ross is reiterating and reiterating his opposition to health care reform -- House bill or Senate bill. Screw the poor and sick if there's any way any part of any legislation can be interpreted in a way unhealthy to Mike Ross' political health. It must be perfection, as defined by Mike Ross' political barometer.

He also Twittered later:

I oppose reconciliation, deem&pass or any maneuver that circumvents the legislative process. Issue too important for partisan games.

This was interesting, because he joined the majority earlier today in voting down a resolution by Republicans attempting to nullify the "deem and pass" procedure by requiring clear votes. Ross had a wiggle clause: He explained later that he viewed the Republican move today also as a "parliamentary manuever" to circumvent the normal legislative process.

It almost makes you miss Jay Dickey. Before you mention it, as Rep. Marion Berry did to me this morning, I need to repeat: The Arkansas Times Arkansan of the Year award is not necessarily awarded for a positive contribution, only for significant impact. In 1957, it would have been hard not to pick Faubus, for example.
