From a description of Sunday's Easter Parade down Fifth Avenue in New York City:

"Gallas, who has been attending the parade for 30 years, also brought along her eastern box turtle, Tuck, but left his cowboy hat at home . . . ."

  • An eerie feeling

You get an eerie feeling when reading "Hellhound on His Trail," Hampton Sides' great new book that traces James Earl Ray's stalking of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968.There's an overwhelming feeling of the horrific similarity between the national mood in 1968 (George Wallace was making a serious run at the White House) and today.

  • Whoops

CBS Evening News reported that the 1,000-point swoon on the New York Stock Exchange may have had less to do with Greek money troubles and more to do with some dumbo at an unnamed brokerage who punched the wrong button and sold a billion dollars worth of a stock instead or a million bucks worth.

  • Trump immigration protest at LR: Quick and fierce

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
